Preparing your smartphone for Christmas

OK, I”ll admit it. The four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas are my favorite time of the year. I love listening to Christmas music, especially in the car which drives my kids crazy! I love watching those classic Christmas movies – Elf, Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation are my favorites. I love getting the decorations setup around the house. I even love hitting the stores for last minute gifts on Christmas Eve, an annual family tradition. About the only thing I could do without is Black Friday!

Coca-Cola Snowglobe Live WallpaperOne of my other favorite things to do is customize my phone”s background with a little holiday cheer. My favorite holiday background is the Coca-Cola Snowglobe Live Wallpaper (see the screenshot to the right) that was released last year for the holidays.

Unfortunately, you can”t get that Live Wallpaper in the Android Market anymore, but if you like the holiday season as much as I do or just need a little help getting into the spirit of the season, here are a few holiday wallpapers that you can download for your Android device.

(Live Wallpapers are Android specific. If you”d like holiday apps for your iPhone, or Android device, see the links at the bottom of this article)

1. 3D Christmas Live Wallpaper
3D Christmas Live WallpaperA simple, yet beautiful and elegant wallpaper for your phone. I like the subtle animations and colors of this app. The free version comes with four screens that alternate for 10-15 seconds each, one of them being a countdown timer to the magical day. If you decide to upgrade to the paid version for $0.99, you get a lot of additional features if you”re looking to really customize your background.

You can get the wallpaper from the Android market by clicking here, or by scanning the QR code below with your phone.

2. Christmas Live Wallpaper Pro
This wallpaper isn”t quite as elegant as the 3D Christmas wallpaper, and it doesn”t have as much animation either. However, what it lacks in design, it makes up for in features. You get four background themes to choose from and 3 different “flying” objects – bells, Santas, and candy canes. If you like changing the background on your phone a lot, then this is the wallpaper for you.

You can get the wallpaper from the Android Market by clicking here, or by scanning the QR code below with your phone.

3. Snowfall Free Live Wallpaper
If you”re looking for a background that is just as festive but one that you can use throughout the winter, then you”ll want to try Snowfall Free Live Wallpaper. The free version doesn”t give you any options, but it is still a great background. I find it very relaxing – reminds me of those cold, snowy winter nights growing up on the East coast. It”s $0.99 to upgrade to the paid version which gives you holiday specific features such as Christmas lights and Santa sightings.

You can get the wallpaper from the Android Market by clicking here, or by scanning the QR code below with your phone.

By the way, if you”re looking for Christmas apps for your Android or iPhone device, there”s also plenty of those out there, too. Instead of reviewing them here, you can check out these articles over at Mashable”s website:

If there are any holiday wallpapers (or apps) that I missed or that you”d like to share, feel free to put them in the comments!
